Im A Whiz Too

Regretfully we will not be breeding Whiz again.  Thank you to all who have expressed interest in her foal.  Although Whiz is a wonderful mare and mother her recent diagnosis of Wobbler Syndrome and the discovery that so far two of her four foals were also diagnosed with wobbles leaves us no choice but to never breed her again.  This is a hereditary disorder which becomes increasingly more disabling for the horse.  To read more about this condition you can go to the following link:  http://network.bestfriends.org/horseevents/news/4067.html 

We had always noticed that Whiz has a bit of a "different gait" and some coordination issues in her back end but attributed it to a fracture and treatment in a fore limb when she was a weanling.  However the discovery that so far three of her four foals, 1997 filly, 1998 colt and 2001 filly, have the same issues and were diagnosed as "wobblers" we now know that as good of a mare as Whiz has been she will remain a "pet" only and is no longer to be used as breeding stock.  Her 1997 filly and 1998 colt were both euthanized.

For those who expressed interest in Whiz's 2009 foal, we will however be breeding at least three mares this spring.  One of which is a double bred Joe Cody mare.  You can inquire about that foal if you so desire!
